Training the Voice

Every voice is unique  and so each lesson is  different. Whether your speaking or singing you use the same instrument, and like training for any other muscular system, good form, mindful regular use, and a respect for your body, are all essential components when training your voice. The voice depends on many interconnected systems, an inbalance in any of those areas could cause you frustrations and prevent you from achieving your potential. 

The professional performer is a different ball game, we are aiming to make your voice an athlete in its own right, able to withstand continued use for hours on end at a high performance level. 

No matter what your level of voice use, we always approach our work through teaching efficient breath use and posture work, as well as developing your grounding and awareness of your instrument. What else we cover is hugely dependant on your voice, your vocal goals and any specific performance demands. 

We often use repertoire to work towards certain goals in your vocal development. We like many others use scales and exercises in both the sung and spoken voice, but we also help you cross the boundary of 'learning in isolation' to integrating it all as part of a performance! This is a big part of how we coach technique.

Getting to know you is also a big part of how we work, we like to have  open working partnerships with all our clients, we always want you to feel comfortable and able to  explore your voice with us.
